Weight Distribution for a Trailer with a Tongue Weight of 900 to 1,300 Pounds

Question:

Every hitch has a tongue weight associated with it. I am deciding between a 1000# TW blue ox and a 1500# TW blue ox. My tongue will weigh between 900# and 1300# depending on load. It would be much easier if every hitch had a range. for example, 1000# good for 900- 1300. 1500# good for 1100 - 1800...

Some manufacturers do provide a range but the majority just give the maximum tongue weight allowed by the system. For a system that does indeed have a range of 800 to 1,500 pounds tongue weight, I recommend Reese Strait-Line system # RP66130.

This system also comes with dual-cam sway control to prevent trailer sway. You will just need a properly sized ball and a shank that has the right rise or drop needed to tow the trailer level. I have linked a help article that explains how to measure for rise or drop and a link to the Reese shanks.

For a 2-5/16 inch ball you can use # C40086.
