Recommended Tire And Wheel For Trailer With Higher Weight Capacity
Question:
It seems odd that the wheel load capacity 2050 is so much less than the tire load capacity 2540. Why are they paired this way? I would like to be able to include the full-rated load capacity of the tire as a safety factor but it appears as though the wheel could potentially fail first.

The tire that is included with the tire/wheel combo, part # AM32545 has a higher rating because it is designed to fit wheels with 5 lugs and 6 lugs. Many of the 6-lug wheels will have a higher capacity that the 5-lug.
You may want to purchase the tire and wheel separately. We have the Dexstar Steel 8-Spoke Trailer Wheel, part # AM20522 that has a capacity of 2,150 lbs. You could then order the Karrier ST225/75R15 Radial Trailer Tire, part # AM10303, which would work great with the wheel and has a capacity of 2,830 lbs at 80 psi. This is a Load Range E tire and has a 10-ply rating.
