Hitch and Towing Capacity Recommendation for a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee
Question:
Hi, I bought and installed The Draw-Tite on my 2015 Grand Cherokee Limited. I was hoping you might be able to tell me what the maximum weight my car can safely pull. I called a local hitch tore in MI and they told me I could safely pull 5,000 lbs. I received a call from my dealership who told me I could only pull 3,500 lbs. I want to be safe since I am planning to move to FL and I was planning to put my belongings on a trailer. Would you guys be able to help me? Thanks,

The Draw-Tite part # 75699 that you have installed on your 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee has a 5,000 lb trailer towing capacity. BUT, since a towing setup is only as strong as the weakest component you would need to go by the lowest rated component in your setup. If your vehicle is only rated to tow a 3,500 lbs trailer by Jeep then that is the heaviest trailer you can tow. Depending on how your vehicle is equipped it could be rated for 6,200-7,400 lbs of trailer weight. We checked the owners manual and they recommend using a weight distribution system for trailers weighing more than 3,500 lbs.
Since you wanted to do some towing you might be interested in etrailer ball mount kit # 989900. It comes with 2 ball mounts; one with a 3/4 inch rise or 2 inch drop and one with a 2-3/4 inch rise or 4 inch drop. It also includes a 1-7/8 inch ball, 2 inch ball, hitch pin with clip, and a storage bag.
If the ball mount kit does not include a ball mount with the right rise or drop to tow the trailer level, check out the link I have included that explains how to measure to choose a ball mount to tow the trailer level.
