Installing a 5-Way Vehicle End to a 4-Way Flat Wiring Harness

Question:

I just purchased a trailer hitch and recomended wiring harness, for my 2001 dodge ram pickup 1500. I installed the harnessa four wire flat, however when I purchased my boat I discovered that it has a five wire flat. Do you have a harness available for my needs without purchasing the four to five wire adapter kit?in other words, is there a five wire harness kit made for my vehicle

There is not a 5 way harness offered, but what you could do is install the harness you have, cut off the connector, and install a 5 way vehicle end, part # 20016. The green, yellow, brown, and white wires would attach to the same color wires on the existing harness, and the blue wire would tap into the reverse light circuit. You will then have a permanent installation, and not have to bother with the adapter. I've linked you to our Trailer Wiring FAQ article.
