Which Trailer Harness do I need to Tow Rental Trailers with my 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee
Question:
Hi, Im looking to buy a wiring harness for my 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee towing package. I've read the article for this product: https://www.etrailer.com/tv-Demo-Curt-Custom-Fit-Vehicle-Wiring-C55369.aspx but I was unsure between the difference between a 4-pole and 7-pole wiring harness. I am planning on using a rental trailer, so I was wondering what wiring harness would be best for my jeep. Thanks!

A 7-Way trailer connector has a few more functions than a 4-Way. Namely, it provides a reverse light circuit, a brake controller circuit for trailers with electric brakes, and a power circuit for trailers with batteries or large electrical systems. I have added a link to an FAQ page that talks about the differences between all of the common trailer connectors that should shed more light.
None of these functions are on typical rental trailers. The 4-Way is the standard for basic trailers. If you have a certain trailer in mind, call the rental store and ask what trailer connector it needs.
The Curt # C55369 should work fine and be adequate for most rental trailers.
