Does Surge Brake Coupler Need to be Removed When Electric Over Hydraulic Brake System Is Added
Question:
I have a Continental boat trailer that had an inertia style actuator. My tow vehicle is a 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser. The brakes were previously removed when I bought the boat and trailer used. Will I have to replace the old acuator with a standard hookup to use the electric actuator and does my vehicle need anything special to use this kit?

As long as the latch on your existing hydraulic coupler is in good condition, you can continue to use the coupler. I'd recommend drilling holes sideways through the coupler and installing a cross bolt to prevent the coupler from actuating.
The Titan # T4843800 Disc Brake kit you referenced will be a great choice as long as your existing spindles are compatible with the L68149 inner and L44649 outer bearings used by the hub drums. This is a very complete kit, which provides the hub/rotors, bearings, races, seals, bearing protectors, calipers, brake lines, breakaway kit, electric over hydraulic actuator and hardware.
You'll also need a brake controller that's compatible with electric over hydraulic brake systems like the Tekonsha Prodigy P2, part # 90885.
I've linked you to some FAQ articles that I hope you'll find helpful.
