There is a history of the factory brake controllers having problems and not working with electric-over-hydraulic brakes on a trailer, and that is why customers have them removed and replaced with after market controllers.
The Tekonsha RF, part # TK94FR is designed to work with electric brakes but not electric-over-hydraulic brakes, but I do have a solution.
I recommend using the Tekonsha Prodigy P2, part # 90885. This is one of our most popular because it is easy to install and operate. I have attached a helpful article that explains how to install an after market brake controller on a GM with the factory brake controller.
You will also need additional brake wiring, part # 10-1-1 to run from the brake controller to the 7-way connector on the rear of your truck.
Since there is no adapter port under the dash on your Sierra, you will need to hard wire the brake controller to the wiring under your dash. I have attached a photo of the wiring you will use under the dash. It is located to the left of the brake pedal. I have attached a link to an installation video of a brake controller being installed on a Sierra you can check out.
