Can Electric Brakes Be Added to Dexter 2,200lb Capacity Idler Axle

Question:

Can a pair of flanges be welded to this axle to be mount electric brakes? Im planning an aluminum bodied motorcycle towed camping trailer, and want to experiment with using electric brakes. Outside of the normal trained professional/objects in mirror/your mileage might vary caveats, can a flange for an electric brake be welded with enough space left over to mount the electric brakes and drums?

Helpful Expert Reply:

Brake mounting flanges like part # 4-34 could be welded to the axle you referenced. The spindles are compatible with the L44649 wheel bearings.

If you needed a hub with a 4 on 4 bolt pattern, use the # 8-173-16UC3-EZ hub drum and the # 23-47 and # 23-48 brake assemblies. You'd also need 4 nuts # 6-17 and # 5-8 lock washers per brake assembly.

If you needed a 5 on 4-1/2 bolt pattern, go with the # 8-257-5UC3-EZ hub drum along with the brake assemblies and hardware mentioned above.
