Question:

I want to get the Thule passage trunk mount carrier to transport 2 16inch girls bikes...do I have to purchase the bar to make this possible to mount?

An adapter bar might be required to hold your children's size bikes in the Thule Passage 2 Bike Rack # TH910XT. This rack will accommodate some children's bikes, but I cannot guarantee a fit for your bikes because bike frames come in many shapes and sizes.

One reason you might need an adapter is if there is not enough room in the bike's frame for the carrier's arms to fit through. The arms of the bike rack measure 14 inches from center of arm to center of arm. If the arms cannot fit through the center of the bike frame to attach to the bike, you will want an adapter bar. With the adapter bar between the handle bar column and the shaft of the bike seat, you will have a larger space to be able to more easily mount the bike.

Another reason to use an adapter is if the shape of the bike's frame will not fit the shape of the bike rack's cradles. The adapter bar will provide a standard round bar that will easily fit in the cradles of the bike rack.

The Thule Passage will work with any of our adapter bars. If you are looking for a more economically friendly option than the Thule adapter bar, you can use the Advantage SportsRack Bike Frame Adapter Bar # HE6009.The adapter bar will provide a longer arm for mounting and more space to fit the rack's arms through. This bar is our most economic option, as well as one of the smallest. This adapter's telescoping tube adjusts from 15-1/2 inches to 28 inches.
