Replacement 7-Way Recommendation for a 1997 Jeep Cherokee
Question:
Need to replace the vehicle end of the OEM trailer wiring harness on my 97 Cherokee XJ. It is a 7 pin plug made by the Theodore Bargman Co. which has the harness made into the plastic which is a bummer, unlike the GM which can be unplugged from the back side. So if I want to go with another 7 pin, is the Pollak or the Hopkins the way to go? How will I attach the wires to the back side spade connectors or? of the 7 pin and keep the connections free from moisture?

Helpful Expert Reply:
Since your 7-way does not have a round connector that would allow it to easily disconnect from your wiring harness you would want to go with a replacement 7-way that has a lead of wires like the part # HM40975-11998 so that you can wire your vehicle's wiring to the 7-way.
You will need to use a circuit tester like part # PTW2993 to test the functions of all of the wires on your vehicles trailer wiring so that you can wire up the new 7-way by function.
