Weight Distribution System Recommendation for a 2015 Lexus GX460

Question:

I am considering purchasing a 2015 Airstream International Signature 23FB. The base weight is 4,806#, the GVW 6,000# and the tongue weight 467#. I will be towing this with a 2015 Lexus GX460 with factory hitch. It appears that Blue Ox provides a quality WDH and that a 800# capacity should be right. Do you agree? What length shaft will be needed? And, which is preferable the clamp-on unit or the bolt-on?

The best way to pick out a weight distribution system is to base it off of the loaded tongue weight of the setup when it is loaded and ready to tow. This figure also includes the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. I attached a help article on determining tongue weight for you to check out as well. You will want the loaded tongue weight of your setup to fall right in the middle of the tongue weight range of the system you use.

None of the Blue Ox systems would be ideal for tongue weight of 467 lbs. Instead I would recommend the Strait-Line Weight Distribution System # RP66083. The range of this system would work well for you and this WD features the only sway control on the market designed to fight sway before it starts.

For a 2 inch ball you would want part # A-90 and for a 2-5/16 inch ball # 19286.
