Roof Mounted Cargo Bag for a 2014 Ford Escape
Question:
Which rooftop cargo bag would you recommend for a 2014 ford escape without any roof rack, just a naked roof. I see several any not sure which would work. Also what if any extras do I need like is it better to just strap thru car or are the hooks better to use and do I need a mat under carrier?

I have included a link to all of the roof mounted cargo bags that can be used on a naked roof like your 2014 Ford Escape. The most popular option is Rightline bag # RL100S30. It offers 18 cubic feet of space, the largest of the options.
You could run the straps through the interior of the vehicle but it can restrict headroom and in some cases the straps can act like a wick, get soaked from rain, and let water drip into the vehicle. That is why I recommend going with the car clips, # RL100600, so that you won't have to worry about any of that.
I do recommend the protective pad # RL100650 because it will not only protect the roof but also help keep the bag in place while you drive.
And the other accessory I often recommend is a tire step, # HE4040. A tire step is much safer to use than standing in an open vehicle doorway.
