Intermittent Trailer Connection When Using Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Trailer Brake Controller # 90885
Question:
Have a Prodigy P2 only 1 year oldused only twice. When hooked up to 5th wheel will often times say nc, then will go to c. Amps from plug-in are nominal when saying nc, but of course work in c. May be loose wire, but none found. Several time the controller will give break reading with nothing connected. Dealer says these unit rarely go bad, but does this sound like my units is working intermittently?

I have to agree with the dealer, the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Trailer Brake Controller, # 90885, is a very reliable controller and typically the only reason for failure is when a short on a trailer takes it out. In your case it sounds like this issue could be something as simple as corrosion in one of the connectors.
You'll want to start by checking both connectors, truck and 5th wheel, and clean if necessary. Next, use a tester like part # PTW2993, to check the brake output pin on the truck's connector. You'll need a helper to hold the manual override lever while you check the pin for constant power. If power is constant, then it is time to check for a wiring issue.
Make sure that the brake magnets on the trailer are grounded to a clean metal surface. If the grounds look good, trace the brake wire to make sure that it hasn't been damaged or pinched.
If you have checked everything and are still having an issue with intermittent connectivity, please feel free to email me and I will be happy to provide you with additional suggestions to try and locate the issue.
