I have a moon roof and wondered if the CURT Roof-Mounted-Cargo-Rack would work out ok?

You'll want to check the dimensions of your 2012 Subaru Forester's roof rack cross bars and their front-to-back spacing to ensure compatibility with the mounting hardware in Curt Roof Mounted Cargo Basket # C18115. Cross bars up to 3-inches wide x 1-5/8-inches tall will fit the hardware and their centers must be spaced apart at one of three distances: 15-, 22- or 29-inches. If your roof rack meets these dimension requirements then the Curt cargo basket will fit just fine. If your bars do not have one of the required spreads then Rhino Rack basket # RMCB is a good choice since it works for any bar spread between 21- and 30-inches.

It is best not to open a sun or moon roof when you have any roof-mount accessories. Some may interfere with the opening/closing of the moon roof but all will make enough wind noise that you'll want to keep it closed anyway. The moon roof on your Forester probably slides back into the roof so it would not likely interfere with the rack but the noise concern will remain.

Keep in mind that you do not want to exceed the Forester's roof weight capacity. The combined weight of the carrier you choose (25-lbs for the Curt and 29-lbs for the Thule) plus your cargo weight cannot exceed the car's limit, which should be noted in your owner's manual.

If your Forester has a trailer hitch you can consider using a hitch-mount carrier like # C18110 which will offer more weight-carrying capacity and which fits all Class I, II and III hitches. Hitch carriers tend to have less potential to affect your mileage since they will create less wind resistance than a roof basket.
