Blue Ox Weight Distribution System Recommendation for an ATC Toy Hauler

Question:

I have an all aluminum rv toyhauler trailer from ATC. The trailer is 20foot long and 7foot wide. Overall dry weight is 4,032 lbs. with a tongue weight of 714 lbs. I am looking at the Blue Ox Sway Pro but have concerns about the bolt attachment system for the brackets on the trailer. The trailer has 2inch x 7inch aluminum box frame and I dont want to crush the boxed aluminum frame. Would a metal plate up against the aluminum be acceptable for the attachment bolt to tighten up against the frame. Thank you and hopefully my explanation made sense.

Since you have an aluminum trailer frame you will first need to contact your trailer manufacturer to verify that they recommend the use of a weight distribution system. From some searching around on the internet it looks like they say it's okay to use a WD system, but I still would recommend you contact them with your trailer model to be certain.

The chain hanger bracket is designed to fit a 2 inch wide trailer frame. When you torque down the set screw you don't need to tighten it to the point that it would damage the frame. They will get tightened to 40 ft. lbs. which wouldn't be enough to crush your frame.

Based on your tongue weight the # BXW1000 would be your best option since is designed for tongue weights from 750 - 1,000 lbs.

For a 2 inch ball you would want part # A-90 and for a 2-5/16 inch ball # 19286.
