Need Cargo Carrier That Sits Far Enough Away From Dual Exhaust on 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee
Question:
I have a 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee that I would like to add a hitch mount cargo carrier to. Not looking for a large one maybe 48 and would like to use a high / low adapter to move it away from the exhaust pipes it is a V8 so I have exhaust pipes on both sides of the Jeep. What would you recommend? If it makes sense to go with a wider one I can. Thanks,

I recommend taking a look at the 24x60 etrailer Cargo Carrier, # 398874. This carrier has a shank rise of 2-1-2 inches and the closest edge of the carrier will sit 19-1/2 inches from the bumper of your 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee.
If you feel that this carrier will still sit too close to the dual exhaust on your Cherokee, you could use the Curt Dual 2 inch Receiver Tube Adapter, # D-192, which will raise the carrier 5-1/4 inches and push it 8 inches further away from the vehicle. Please keep in mind that using an adapter will decrease the capacity of your hitch by 50 percent.
The only other option that I have to offer would be to install exhaust turndown tips to direct the exhaust away from the carrier. I have included a link to these for you.
Just a reminder, your must always abide by the capacity of the lowest-rated component in your towing system. You'll want to keep this in mind as you load your cargo on the carrier.
A high/low adapter like # RM-070 is designed to only be used with a tow bar.
