First, if your 1999 Mercedes CLK 320 convertible does not already have a trailer hitch you will need to install one using # C11815. It fits Coupe and Cabriolet Convertible models but only if they are built on the 208 chassis. It looks like in 1999 they were all the 208 chassis so no worries.

For a bike carrier you will need one that is compatible with a Class I trailer hitch. The Curt # C18085
is a great option since it holds the bikes at the wheels making it compatible with many bike styles.

For a more traditional hanging style carrier I recommend the Swagman Trailhead # S63360. this carrier has a rise in the shank for better ground clearance. If you will be carrying any women's, children's or alternative frame bikes you will likely need an adapter bar, # 65004, to carry those types of bikes level. And if a platform style bike carrier is more what you are looking for the most popular option is # S64670. This carrier holds the bikes at the wheels and frame so it is compatible with many bike styles.

Curt, the trailer hitch manufacturer, also says you have to use stabilization strap # 18050 when using this hitch for any non-trailer load (such as a bike rack or car go carrier) per their warranty requirements. On a convertible it might be tough to find a place to attach it on the vehicle but just make sure it is on their to avoid any potential warranty issues.
