Recommended Platform Bike Rack For 2005 Volkswagen New Beetle

Question:

I have a 2005 new beetle with a 1.25 hitch on it. Id like to buy a Kuat NV 2, but Im concerned about the low clearance of my hitch/car. I am wondering, if any of your hitch extension products, could be recommended to combine with this bike rack, to clear both my car and the ground, and possibly even allow me to use the 2inch hitch version of the bike rack, as my other vehicles have 2inch hitches.

For a platform-style bike carrier that will work with your 2005 New Beetle I recommend the Kuat NV, part # NV12G.

This bike rack will fit 1-1/4 inch receiver openings. This rack has a weight capacity of 120 lbs or 50 lbs per bike. The rack weighs 49 lbs. This rack also features a locking hitch pin and a cable lock that secures the bikes to the rack. The rack has also got a 3-1/2 inch shank rise.

Using a hitch adapter will reduce the capacity of the hitch by 50 percent, and something I would not recommend for your VW with the Class l hitch.
