Brake Controller and Install Harness Recommendation for a 2002 Dodge Ram 2500
Question:
I have a 2002 Dodge Ram 2500 last year for gen 2 body style with factory tow hitch. It has the factory round must be 7-wire and the factory 4 flat. I,m torn between the Prodigy P2 and P3. Any suggestions? Also what is the part# for the required wiring harness? Will one work for both the factory round 7-wire and the 4 flat. Or will two harnesses be required. What are those part #s . Thank you.

A brake controller will operate through the 7-way of your 2002 Dodge Ram 2500 as that is the connector that carries the brake output circuit. The 4-way would not as it does not carry that circuit.
As far as function goes, the two controllers are actually pretty similar. The primary difference between the two is that the P3 # 90195 uses what I would call a more user friendly display. Instead of an error code like what's displayed on the P2 # 90885, the P3 will actually spell out in plain English what the problem is. The P3 also offers 5 preset storable settings that allow you to dial in your preferred settings for up to 5 different trailers. If you'll only be towing one or two trailers, this feature might not be all that important to you.
Either controller would be an excellent choice. The correct install harness would be part # 3020-P.
