Recommended Sliding Fifth Wheel Hitch For 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 With 6-1/2 Ft Bed
Question:
I have a Sanibel 3600 fifth wheel. I want to know if a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD 4x4 with a 6-6inch box should use a fifth wheel hitch with a slide mechanism? Would there be clearance to prevent damage on a sharp turn? Thank you.

Typically, a sliding fifth wheel hitch will let you make turns with your Silverado with the 6-1/2 ft bed. You can check with your trailer manufacturer and ask if it can be towed safely with the bed on your truck. There are several options you may want to consider.
If you can use a sliding fifth wheel I recommend an automatic sliding fifth wheel hitch like the Demco RV Fifth Wheel, part # DM8550034. This is an 18,000 lb hitch that features 14 inches of front to back travel. I have attached a product review video for this hitch.
If you are looking for a standard sliding fifth wheel hitch I recommend the Curt A20 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ R20 Slider, part # C16541. This is a heavy-duty hitch with dual jaws that provide a 360 degree jaw-to-king-pin contact. This means less rattle and jarring. This hitch has a gross towing weight capacity of 20,0000 lbs and features round tube sliders which is less binding than square sliders. The slider travel for this hitch is 12 inches front to back.
I recommend the custom installation kit like part # C16411-204. This kit has custom brackets that cut the installation time in half when compared with universal installation kits. This kit includes the brackets, rails, and hardware, and will work with either of the hitches mentioned.
