What is the Towing Capacity for a 2011 Chevy Silverado 2500HD 4x4 to Tow 5th Wheel Trailer

Question:

Good Morning, Im looking to buy a 5th Wheel Camper. The gross weight of the trailer is 9733. I have a 2011 2500HD 4x4 gas motor. I was wondering if my pickup would be fine pulling that 5th Wheel Camper?

According to section 9-85 of the owners manual for a 2011 Chevy/GMC Silverado/Sierra 2500HD the lowest capacity of any of the 4x4 models is 13,800 pounds. Consult your owners manual to confirm. Since the 5th wheel trailer you are looking at has a gross weight of 9,733 pounds, the truck will be able to tow it with no problem.

For a 5th wheel installation kit I recommend Curt custom kit # C16411-204. It will fit both long and short bed models and it requires much less drilling than universal kits.

For a hitch, if your truck is a short bed, you will need to use a slider. I recommend Curt Q16 # C16521. This hitch is rated for 16,000 pounds, it has a slider base that travels 12 inches for more clearance when making tight turns, it has a cushioned 360 degree floating head for the best ride. I have linked a video review of this hitch for you.

If you have a long bed truck then you would use the fixed version of the hitch, # C16120.
