How to Install # HM50002 Smart Hitch Camera in 1999 Ram w/ No Top License Plate Mounting Holes

Question:

I have a 99 Dodge Ram 3500, there are no mounting holes on top of the rear license plate, The plate slips into top slots and the mounting holes are on the bottom, How would you recommend mounting. I can drill holes on top but the slots that hold the plate stick out and it doesnt look like it will be a secure mounting set up.

Drilling holes at the top of the plate would be an option, if it's feasible. If you mount the camera at the bottom of the plate, the camera will be upside down, which means that the image on the monitor will be upside down as well.

Although Hopkins tells me that they haven't tried it, you could remove the camera, rotate it 180 degrees and re-install it in its holder. You'll just have to remove screw on each side of the camera housing. This sounds like your best solution, in my opinion.

I've linked you to a video that shows the installation on a 2009 Ram. The install of the camera portion will be different in your case, but the rest of the installation would be similar.
