Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Trailer Brake Controller Installation in 2015 Ford Edge
Question:
Robert R gave advice for installing a brake controller for a 2014 Ford Edge. I understand that my new 2015 Ford Edge is a major redesign. I have the trailer towing package but it is wired with a flat 4 wire plug. Is there a brake controller on my car? The car dealership doesnt have a clue. If there isnt a fractory brake controller on my car, do the instructions in Robert Rs article also apply to my 2015 even though it is it is a major revision from the 2014 model? If parts are necessarI, I take it that I can order everything that is required from erailer or should I buy the gold plated truck parts from the dealer? Thank you. BTW, I brought a Tekonsa Prodigy P2 from you last year for my Chevy Astro, I agree with Roberts opinion, it is a VERY good controller.

Helpful Expert Reply:
Your 2015 Ford Edge with factory tow package 4-pole wiring does NOT have an integrated trailer brake controller. If it had a controller it would already have a 7-way trailer socket rather than the 4-pole. And you are correct that the 2015 Edge is the first year of the second generation of this vehicle so it is indeed different from earlier years.
Brake controller installation on your 2015 Edge will be a hard-wired type requiring installation kit # ETBC7 along with the controller, such as the Prodigy P2 # 90885. The kit includes all the parts needed to convert your existing 4-pole to a 7-way and to connect the controller. This installation will save you money compared to factory-installed controllers. Often owners with factory controllers still end up using an aftermarket controller because they simply work better. An article and video are linked to help you with your installation.
