Recommended Repair for Thule Cargo Box Strut Attachment Bracket

Question:

I purchase a dual force strut replacement because my original broke. As I was trying to remove the original strut, the triangular metal bracket that attaches the strut broke off. Is this part replaceable, or can I try to have the metal piece bonded back?

Thank you for your included photo of the strut bracket on your Thule cargo box.

You can re-attach it. You'll want to locally source stainless steel hardware that is just long enough to reach through the bracket from the outside and accept a lock washer and nut. Use at least 3 fasteners. Avoid hardware that may be too long and which might interfere with the lid mechanism or become snagged on your loaded cargo. Also try to find hardware that will not require you to enlarge the holes in the bracket.

You'll want to also use a silicone sealant like # LT37467 to both protect against entry of water and also to help reinforce the repair point. Do note this type of sealer makes a strong and flexible bond but it does take many hours to fully cure and solidify so you'll want to do the work and then let the box sit overnight before completing your re-installation of the hinge mechanism. You can also apply some to the secured hardware inside the box to prevent it from becoming loose.
