Brake Controller and 7-Way Recommendation for a 2011 Toyota RAV4 with 4-Way
Question:
I have a 2011 RAV4 with 4 pole trailer connector already installedfactory or dealer installed and would like to add a 7 pole. I havent purchased the travel trailer yet and Im wondering if I should wait until I get the trailer before getting the 7 pole kit so I know if the trailer has a round or flat plug? The trailer will have electric brakes. Also will the 7 pole kit when wired as directed allow the vehicle charging system to charge the trailer battery? Thank you for any info.

I can almost guarantee your new travel trailer will have a 7-way flat connector. That is the industry standard connector for trailers with brakes. The 7-way round is typically only seen on heavy duty trailers and is basically never used in the recreational towing world. The correct kit you would want would be the part # ETBC7. This comes with everything needed to install a brake controller and route the power wire for the trailer charging circuit. Check out the install video and instructions as well.
For a brake controller I would recommend the Prodigy P2 Brake Controller part # 90885. This is our best selling brake controller because of how well it works and how easy it is to setup. This is a proportional brake controller that senses the amount of braking the tow vehicle is applying and applies a proportionate amount to the trailer brakes.
