Supplemental Transmission Cooler Recommendation for a 2001 Ford F-150

Question:

I have a 2001 Ford F150 5.4L 3.55 rear end towing 3,000 lbs 2000 miles. The factory trans cooler is a stacked design 7inch H x 10inch W. Is this cooler adequate for my application? Should I install a temp gauge to be sure? I dont want to install a new cooler unless I have to. Thanks,

Factory coolers are often times adequate at best for non-towing applications. For a cheap insurance policy I would add an additional one to your 2001 Ford F-150 since you basically can't over cool a transmission. The cooler you can keep the fluid the longer the transmission will last.

A very popular option that would work well for you would be the Derale part # D13614 that you referenced. You would also want the fittings # D13025 to allow the installation of the cooler to be a bit easier since this won't require you to cut any metal lines.
