Fifth Wheel Hitch and Rail Kit for a 2006 GMC Sierra Short Bed with Fuel Tank in Bed

Question:

I have a GMC Sierra 2500HD with a 6.6 box. Also installed is a 50 Gal Fuel tank below the rails which uses18inch of space from the cab back. I still have 22inch from the tank to the Axle free. Will the Titans w/slider fit? I am looking at the RP30869. I just dont know what the hitch requires between the Axle and my fuel tank. Thanks,

Expert Reply:

For a custom install rail kit for your 2006 the part # RP50064-58 should work well for you.

When installed the center of the fifth wheel rails will end up being 1-1/2 inches forward of the axle. Since the span between the fifth wheel rails is 22 inches and you have 22 inches from the back of the fuel tank to the axle you would have enough clearance.

The Slider hitch part # RP30075 would also fit well as it does not extend beyond the front rail when installed.
