Parts Needed to Convert 6 Way Connector to 7 Way on 2002 Foretravel U-270
Question:
6 wire connector on a 2002 foretravel U 270 to 7 wire blade I have air brakes with a stick retarder I am not finding 12 volts on the 6 wire factory plug. The retarder applies in three stages, Do I need a controler ? if so can I pull 2 # 10 wires from the front and use the adapter #47435, OR do you have a way to pick up varing brake pressure from my coach. Im trying to pull a 18 ft car hauler , with a 7 wire blade . The factory says there are extra wires built into the coach, but no one will say where they come out at. Thanks

To convert the 6-Pole on your 2002 Foretravel to a 7-Pole, you could use the Hopkins Trailer Wiring Adapter, # 47435, that you mentioned. Since you are not finding power on the 6-way, most likely the wires for the 12V power and brake controller output have not been run so you are correct, these will need to be run. For wiring you can use our Wiring Kit for Electric Brake Controllers, # 5506. The 12V power wire will connect to the positive side of the battery and brake controller output wire is to connect to a brake controller.
In order to operate the electric brakes on a trailer, you will need to install a controller like the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller, # 90195. I have included a link which will help when it comes to the installation.
Since the factory can not provide information as to the location of the extra wires that are built into the coach, this is going to be the easiest option for installing a brake controller.
