How To Connect Blue Wire On Tekonsha Brake Controller On 2004 Dodge Ram With 4-Pole

Question:

When you say leave the blue wire loose on the ram adapter, do you mean clip the blue wire on the adapter and attach to the blue wire coming from the rear of the truck? Thank You

Because your 2004 Dodge Ram was not equipped with the 7-way trailer connector, you will also need the Adapter 4 Pole to 7 Pole and 4 Pole, # 37185, trailer connector.

You will need a length of 10 gauge wire, Blue Primary Wire - per foot, # 10-1-1, to run from the blue wire on the Dodge adapter that plugs into the brake controller to the rear of the vehicle connecting to the blue brake output wire on the Adapter 4 Pole to 7 Pole and 4 Pole, # 37185.

When attaching the Dodge wiring adapter to the Tekonsha Prodigy Proportional Brake Controller, you would need to cut the blue wire closest to the white connector and attach it to your length of wire that you have run to the Adapter 4 Pole to 7 Pole and 4 Pole, # 37185.

If you did not want to cut the wire on the connector, the other option is to look under the drivers side of the vehicle, right behind the front wheel well is a wire connector. On the hood side of the connector there are more wires than the hitch side of the connector. On the hood side, find the blue wire, and you can use a quick splice Connector, # SWC502905-1, to connect to the blue wire there and run enough wire from the front wheel well to the end of the truck bed.

I am sending a link to brake controller installation on Dodge Ram Truck. If you find the section that says Factory Installed 4-Pole it will show a good picture of the wire connector.

The Adapter 4 Pole to 7 Pole and 4 Pole, # 37185 will plug into your existing 4-way, with four extra leads. The four extra leads are blue, white, black and yellow. The blue wire, as I mentioned before, attaches to the brake output wire that you have run from the brake controller (or the fender well) to the rear of the vehicle. The white wire needs to be grounded to clean metal. The black wire is used to provide 12-volt power for any trailer accessories. It is not mandatory to install it, but if you wish to you would run another length of the 10 gauge wire to the positive battery terminal via an inline, Pollak 40 amp In-Line Circuit Breaker, # 9510. The yellow wire is used for reverse lights if needed, if not needed then it can be left disconnected. The end can be taped and bundled out of the way.
