Recommended Radial Tires For 10 Ft Trailer Carrying Motorcycle For Long Road Trip
Question:
I have a 10ft utility trailer that currently have st205/75/15 tires Im assuming are bias ply? Im goin to be making a 1200 mile round trip mostly freeway with my 700lb motorcycle on the trailer and plan on running 70 mph for the majority of the time. I was looking for a spare tire/rim combo but now Im wondering if these tires are up to the task or if I should replace then altogether with radials. Can you help me with this? I just dont want to have a blowout

When towing a trailer, I recommend using radial tires because they run cooler than the bias-ply tires. Bias ply tires have a stiffer sidewall which is useful for off road like with farm use. A radial tire is more flexible which means it gets better tread wear as well. You will always want to make sure you have tires of the same size, load range, and construction on a trailer to help avoid tire failure.
We have some great radial tires I recommend for your trailer, especially since you are planning on traveling a long distance. Most trailer tires are rated for 65 miles per hour.
I recommend the Taskmaster ST205/75R15 Radial Trailer Tire, part # TTWTRTM2057515C. This is a load range C tire and has a maximum load capacity of 1,820 lbs at 50 psi. This tire has a speed rating of M which is 81 mph.
For a bit heavier tire you can check out part # AM10245. This is a load range D tire and has a maximum load rating of 2,150 lbs at 65 psi.
You want to keep your trailer tire pressure at the maximum psi level. It is always best to inflate the tires when they are cold. I have attached a helpful article about trailer tires you can take a look at.
I have also attached a link to our tire/wheel combos we offer. If you want to let me know the wheel bolt pattern for your hubs I will be glad to make some recommendations that will work for you. Check out the attached helpful article that explains how to measure the bolt pattern on your wheel.
