Trailer Wiring Harness for a 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport with Factory Tow Package
Question:
Had a Curt hitch installed by a rental place. Car has prewired towing package, but they installed wiring package that runs up to the battery also. Vehicle has burned out fuses on both legs of trip with trailer dont know how long before lights went out. Should they have installed a # C56151 harness instead of one that runs to battery or is this one ok and possibly another issue like bad ground?

If your 2014 Hyundai Santa Sport came with the factory tow package (which it sounds like it did) then you could use wiring harness # C56332. I have included a link to a video showing how this harness installs.
The wiring harnesses for models that did not come with the factory tow package do need a direct connection to the vehicle battery. This is what powers the trailer lights so there is very little draw on the vehicle tail light wiring. An improper installation could result in a short and cause the fuses to blow.
A bad ground would likely not cause this problem, but another possibility is that if the trailer has a lot of lights that over draw the system it could cause the wiring harness converter or its fuse to blow but should not affect the vehicle fuses.
