4-Way to 5-Way Adapter for a 1998 Chevy C/K Series Pickup Truck

Question:

I have a boat trailer with a 5 pin with surge brakes. I tried turning the wiring and turning my headlights on when backing up but it keeps blowing my dashboard and running light fuse. I rather just leave all plugged up. Can I buy the 4 to 5 pin adapter and splice the fifth wire to my backup wire under the driver side?

Yes, you can use a 4-Way to 5-Way adapter, # 20036, to use with your boat trailer. It will install basically exactly how you have described with that extra wire going to the reverse light circuit on the vehicle. I have linked a video showing an example installation. Of course it will be easier to install on a truck than on the vehicle in the video since you don't have to worry about that rear hatch.
