Can 235/80R16E Trailer Tires be Replaced with 225/75-15

Question:

We have a 2008 Glendale Titanium 5th wheel GVWR 14,965, GAWR 6,840 for each of two Dexter axles, with Eagle aluminum 16/7 8 bolt rims. The trailer came with ST235/80R16E 3,420 lbs at 80 PSI, but I see scuff marks on the top of two of the wheel wells maybe just occasional??, so I was wondering if I could change the size of the tire to be a smaller diameter 235/75??, but still have the same and preferably better load capacity. Also, I cannot seem to find the PSI capacity of the wheels so I am not sure if I can increase to a 95 PSI tire. trailer came with ST235/80R16E 3,420 lbs at 80 PSI, smaller diameter 235/75??, but still have the same and preferably better load capacity. cannot seem to find the PSI capacity of the wheels so I am not sure if I can increase to a 95 PSI tire.

You should put the size tires and wheels on the trailer that the trailer manufactures states. This information can be found on a sticker or plate on the trailer frame. If you were to go down to tire size 225/75-15 (there is no 235/75-16 trailer tire size), you would only have a weight capacity of 2,830 lbs.

Unfortunately changing your tire size is not going to solve your clearance problem. Your best bet is to take the trailer to a qualified mechanic and have him check out your trailer's suspension to determine what the problem is.
