Can a 12 Inch Trailer Wheel Handle a 145/80-12 Load Range E Tire at 80psi
Question:
I have a pop up camper with 145 R12 D rating. How do I know if the rims can handle moving up to a E load rating given the extra inflation PSI

Expert Reply:
A 14 inch steel wheel can handle the additional pressure of a 145/80-12 load range E tire # AM10140. You will likely need to replace the valve stems. valve stem # AM20904 is rated up to 80 psi and fits a 0.453 inch diameter hole.
Please note that going to a higher capacity tire will not increase the capacity of the trailer. Trailer tires should be inflated to the maximum psi indicated on the tire. I have included a link to our help article on trailer tires for you.
