Steps Needed To Set Up P2 Brake Controller in 2003 Silverado with Tow Package

Question:

My 2003 Silverado does not have a factory installed hitch but I did find the wiring harness with the round plug and cap above my spare tire. I was going to purchase the PK11893 connector that I believe will plug directly into this factory round plug. I also need to connect my Tekonsha P2 brake controller. It looks like I should purchase the P2 harness adapter 3015-p. Then I will need to make some connections under the hood. Will I need to run the blue wire from under the hood back to the 7 way connector or does the factory wiring harness handle this? If I do need to run the blue wire back how can I connect the blue wire to the PK11893 as it plugs directly into the factory round plug?

Since you have the tow package wiring plug located above the spare tire all you need is a connector like the Replacement Multi-Tow 7-Way and 4-Way Trailer Connector, # 30955. You will just plug the adapter into the factory connector and mount the 7-Way at the rear of the vehicle.

Then you will plug your Tekonsha Prodigy P2 brake controller # 90885 into adapter # 3015-P. The adapter will plug into a port under your dash.

I have included an FAQ video below that should be helpful when you are wiring in a 7-Way. Even with a tow package, there may be some connections that need to be made under the hood. The article covers these steps.
