Roof Mount Bike Carrier for a 40 Pound 1976 Schwinn Collegiate Bike
Question:
My daughter has a 1976 Schwinn Collegiate that weighs over 40 pounds. Some bike racks have weight limits, such as 35 lbs. Do you know if the Yakima Frontloader Y02103, or similar, allow for bicycles that are over 35 lbs?

For the Yakima FrontLoader, # Y02103, its capacity depends on the roof rack crossbar spread. the spread is the distance from the center of one crossbar to the center of the other. If that distance is 18 to 48 inches then it has a capacity of 40 pounds. Less than 18 inches and it is rated for just 30 pounds.
The Thule UpRide # TH599000 is rated for 44 pounds so I would go with it for the heavy Schwinn bike. I have included a link to a video review of this carrier for you.
Be sure to consult the vehicle owners manual or manufacturer for the roof rack capacity prior to loading.
