5th Wheel Trailer Landing Gear Motor Strains and Gear Box Makes Noise and Shakes

Question:

I have a 2008 Dutchman Colorado 29BH. When raising the camper, the motor will start out fine and then it starts to strain a bit. When the motor starts to strain, the gearbox starts to clunk and shakes around a little bit. I replaced the electric motor, but the new motor is also doing the same thing. Is this a sign that the gearbox is going bad? It only does it when I am lifting the camper. If I am retracting the legs, it works fine. This part#: LG-179015 looks like the one I have on the camper already. Will it fit?

It could be the gear box or it could be damage to the screw or nut inside the jack leg(s). If you have a Stromberg Carlson, Atwood, Lippert (LCI), or Venture landing gear system then # LG-179015 will fit.

If you replace the gear box and still have the problem then I suspect there is a problem inside one of the legs and it will have to be replaced. For a replacement lead leg # LG-179013, rated for 3,000 pounds, is a likely fit. There is also a repair kit for this leg, # LG-146059.

The matching follower leg is # LG-179014 and its repair kit is # LG-146060.
