Recommended Cargo Carrier That Would Clear Spare Tire of 2003 Wrangler
Question:
I have a 2003 Jeep Wrangler with a 2, Class 3 hitch. Im trying to find a cargo carrier that will clear my spare tire so that I can put a 46 inch x 16 inch x 20inch high tool box on the rack. I am having trouble finding a decently priced carrier that will clear the tire, which is 7.5inch from the hitch pin. I am hoping to avoid using an adapter, so any information would be helpful. Thank you.

If the rearmost edge of your spare tire is 7-1/2 inches rearward of your hitch pin hole, you have many choices of cargo carriers that will work for you. The Pro Series # 63153 or the Curt # C18151 would be ideal. Both carriers have shanks that are longer than the 7-1/2 inch clearance measurement you mentioned, so either would work well for you. The carriers are identically priced and are both highly rated by our customers. Quality-wise, I'd have to give a slight edge to the Curt carrier. If you were wanting a carrier that is compatible with a taillight kit like # 59516, go with the Pro Series carrier.
If you're wanting a folding carrier that can fold up against the rear of your Jeep when unloaded, Curt makes a folding model, part # C18151.
