Travel Trailer Hitch Recommendations

Question:

Our travel trailer has about a 4x4 square bumper with the spare tire attached with a u bolt clamp. We want to remove this and add a 2inch receiver bolt on so that we can carry our bike rike and carry 4 bikes 3adult and 1 child. I saw where you said to make sure your bike rack is designed for travel trailer use. What exactly dos that mean? Our bike rack is an Allen 4 bike rack. We would love to add a welded receiver to the frame but our trailer is 69inch inside to inside of the frame. Would love your recommendations.

Only certain bike racks are rated for use behind an RV/trailer. The reason is for that is because they have a much rougher ride present there when compared to a vehicle. You would need to contact Allen with the model of your bike rack to determine if it would be rated for use on a trailer. That we are aware of none of their racks are rated for this.

For a bumper mounted hitch for your 4 inch bumper I would recommend the # E-100 as it would have more than enough capacity for what you are looking to do.

If you wanted to go with a frame mounted hitch the part # 13703 is another option that could work as it can fit trailer frames that are between 22 and 72 inches apart measured from outside to outside and can fit nearly all trailer frame styles.
