Recommended Roof Rack and Cargo Carrier for Skis on 2014 BMW X3
Question:
I have a 2014 BMW X3 with flush mounted rails. Looking to purchase a roof rack that will hold a cargo box for skis. Looking at the Rhino roof rack and the Thule roof rack. Not sure what other accessories I would need with either one of these.

I strongly recommend going with a Thule roof rack. This system is the workhouse of roof racks and includes the following parts:
47 inch SquareBars # TH712200 or WingBar # TH711220
Roof Mounted Foot Pack # TH710601
Fit Kit # TH186007
This roof rack attaches to your factory side rails and features 47 inch square crossbars.
The Thule Pulse Alpine Roof cargo box part # TH613 is an excellent cargo carrier and can handle skis. You will not require any additional parts to transport your skis.
Be sure to consult the vehicle owners manual or BMW for the roof weight capacity before loading. The roof rack itself is rated for 165 pounds but you will need to go by the lowest rated component whether that be the roof or the rack.
