What is Difference Between Bearing # 168255TB and # 171255TB
Question:
Dear seller, I have a question about the grease seals. What are the difference between 168255TB and 171255TB? It looks like their sizes are basically the same it is practically impossible to measure the spindle with that accuracy and I suspect that they probably both fit the same hub. Is this correct? Can I hope that the first one is a little tighter, providing a better seal? Or, is it intended for those cases when the spindle shows some wear, and the standard size does not seal it anymore? My problem is that I used the size 171255 DL/TB last time, and it leaked destroying the bearing. I am thinking about trying the 168255TB. I hope that it will fit, and will provide a tighter seal. What do you think? Thanks!

We recommend using digital calipers to measure the spindle. If you did not do so, you might try that.
The part number 171255 that you referenced actually gives the measurements of the seal that you need. 171 means 1.71 inches inner diameter and 255 mean outer diameter of 2.55 inches which is what the # 58846 has.
So part # 168255TB will have an inner diameter of 1.68 and an outer diameter of 2.55, so it should give you a slightly better seal.
We usually recommend you use the exact size for a replacement. A bearing that is too large will not fit inside the hub or on the spindle. Bearings that are too small for the hub will create a very dangerous situation. But with a difference of a couple of thousandths -- as in this instance -- you should be all right, especially if the larger bearing leaked.
