Trailer Hitch Mount Bike Carrier for 4 Bikes on a 2004 Jeep Liberty with Rear Spare Tire
Question:
I am thinking of buying a bike rack for my husbands 2004 jeep liberty. It has a spare tire on the back. We have a hitch. We would like to carry 4 bikes. Is the Thule T2 the best option?

The Thule T2 bike carrier # TH69TX is a great option for the 2004 Jeep Liberty. The Liberty will need to have a 2 inch trailer hitch receiver opening to be able to use this carrier. It measures 7 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the nearest rail on the carrier so you will not clear the spare tire. None of the 4 bike carriers have enough clearance for your Jeep and its spare tire.
If you need a 2 inch hitch you can use # 75128.
If the trailer hitch has a 1-1/4 inch receiver opening then you will need to use a hanging style carrier as there are no 4-bike platform style carriers designed for 1-1/4 inch hitches. I know the distance from the center of the hitch pin hole back to clear the spare tire can be as much as 15 inches on the 2004 Liberty and none of the 4-bike carriers for 1-1/4 inch hitches extend back that far. But if you could take that measurement on your Liberty and let me know what it is I can determine if any carriers will fit. I have included a link to a help article that shows how to take that measurement. We do have a hanging style 2-bike carrier for 1-1/4 inch hitches that will work, the Thule T2 Classic # TH9045.
