Hardwiring in Brake Controller to 2007 Dodge Ram 1500 with Factory 4-Way and Active Port Under Dash

Question:

I think Ive got it, but I want to check. My truck has a four pin at the back bumper already, so Ill use the 7-pin connector in back that plugs into the existing four pin 4-pole to 7-pole connector. I then: 1 run a 20amp fused/breakered wire from the battery positive to the 7-pin which supplies power to the brakes. 20amp because Im towing a single axle pop-up camper. 2 ground the white wire from the 7-pin to the frame. Next I want to check on the four-pin under my dash. I tested the wires and they are: 1 White + Thick red stripe = + 2 Green = I think brake signal out from controller 3 White + Thin red stripe = Brake signal in to controller... live when brake pedal pushed 4 Black = - ... does that seem right? All using female spade connectors into the 4-pin under the dash: I will connect the above 1 to Black from my Tekonsha. I will connect the above 3 to Red from my Tekonsha. I will connect the above 4 to White from my Tekonsha. That leaves the Blue wire from the Tekonsha brake out to 7-pin which I could either: a connect to 2 above.. but then I have to find it under the truck or on the other side of the firewall no success doing that yet /or/ b run it directly to the 7 pin. The last wire on the 7-pin yellow I need to tap into the reverse lights by finding that at the back of the truck. Does that all sound correct? I want to double check before I do anything. It especially concerns me that Im going Tekonsha white to truck black and Tekonsha black to truck white. I would also like it if the brake out blue or green in the Dodge? already ran to the back of the truck. Im wondering why it is in the 4-pin under the dash if it doesnt already run to the back. Thank you!

A couple of things:

We recommend a 40 amp circuit breaker on the 12 volt circuit to the 7-Way. This is because you never know what you might tow! For a 40 amp circuit breaker you can use # PK54540.

The wire match ups you provided are correct. The only issue is if the harness under the dash is actually fully active. It is possible that it is but it also might not be. The only way to know other than testing with a circuit tester is to try it. though it sounds like you tested and it is working.

That blue wire for output to the trailer brakes might terminate in a connector under the truck either near the driver side wheel well somewhere or potentially further back along the frame. But I cannot be certain so bypassing it altogether by running a wire from the controller's blue wire to the blue wire on the new 7-Way would be what I would do.

There is no standard for wire color/functions so as long as you know the functions of the wires there are no worries about the connections that need to be made.

Everything else you have described does sound right.
