Can Trailer Be Backed w/ Reese Strait-Line Weight Distribution System Installed on Trailer
Question:
Looking at the details on this, it indicates you can back with this unit on. Is it possible to back the trailer in a turn tight enough to pop the outside bar off of the slide mounted to the trailer V? The image illustrating a turn with the trailer does not indicate the tow vehicle is at a very sharp angle from the trailer itself.

Expert Reply:
In normal situations, you can indeed back a trailer with the Reese Strait-Line # RP66074 weight distribution system installed. However, if you're backing at a very sharp angle where jackknifing the trailer is possible, it's recommended to remove the spring bars to prevent anything from being damaged. The hooks on the ends of the spring bars won't allow the spring bars to 'pop off' the assembly, if that's what you're concerned about.
As the trailer is turning, the spring bar on the outside of the turn will lift up, allowing it out of the cam. This will allow you to turn easily.
