Weight Distribution for a 2008 Toyota Tundra and 3,800 Pound Travel Trailer

Question:

Can you recommend a suitable WDH? I have a 2008 Toyota Tundra double cab with a 4.7 L V8 and will be towing a 19 foot travel trailer that will weigh about 3800 lbs. Im calculating my tongue weight plus items rear to the axle will be about 500-550 lbs. When I look up various WDHs with that tongue weight the GVW capacity is up past 10,000 lbs. Do you carry any that will fit into my specs? Thanks!

To choose a weight distribution system you will need to go by the total tongue weight of the set up. This is calculated by taking the tongue weight of the trailer, when loaded and ready to tow, and adding to that the weight of anything loaded behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle just like you did.

The gross trailer weight capacity does not affect the spring bar tension on the system you choose so having one rated for 10,000 pounds will not be a problem at all.

Since the total tongue weight could be as much as 550 pounds I recommend going with a system rated up to 800 pounds, # BLU47FR.

For a 2 inch ball use # A-90 and for a 2-5/16 inch ball use # 19286. And for a friction sway bar use # 83660. I have included some helpful links on weight distribution and determining tongue weight for you.
