Parts Needed to Install Brake Controller on 2008 Mercury Mountaineer

Question:

Have a 2008 Merck Mountaineer with class III/IV tow pig. and 7000#GVW Hallmark with electric brakes There was connector in Merc with 6 female receptacles loose in the glove box What do I need to utilize the trailer brakes. Is there a interface plug already in the Merck. Could not find anything under the dash

Since you mention finding that 6 female receptacle connector loose in the glove box, I am going to assume that this is because your 2008 Mercury Mountaineer is equipped with a 7-way connector at the back of the vehicle and is wired for a brake controller.

On the Mountaineer the plug can be found one of two places. It will either be located behind the vehicle glove box on the passenger side or the harness will be located underneath and left of the steering column taped to another harness near the emergency brake pedal.

When it comes to a brake controller, I highly recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P3, # 90195. This is a customer favorite because of how well it works and how easy it is to setup. Although you could use the loose connector that was found in your glove box, an even easier option would be to use Plug-In Wiring Adapter, # 3035-P. With this no wiring is required at all. Just plug the one end into the controller and the other end into the plug on your Mountaineer and you'll be ready to go.

If for any reason you can not locate the plug on your Mountaineer or if it is not equipped with a 7-way, please feel free to send me an email.
