Expert Reply:

Typically special trailer tires are usually rated to operate at a maximum speed of 65 mph and if you exceed 65 mph, heat could build up in the tire and cause it to break down and fail.

The tire I recommend for your 4.80-12 size is the Kenda # AM10062 because it was designed for excellent handling at high speeds even though the speed rating is 65 mph. The load rating is 990 pounds at 90 psi.

I included a couple informative articles for you too.

I have a Triton single PWC trailer. Towing it 800 miles at highway speeds . Tire size is 4.80x12c load rating of 990lbs at 90psi, side tire says 2 ply, think they are bias tire... What do I really need be using, usually make this trip once a year in the summer...

Assuming your loaded trailer weight falls under the 990 pound capacity of those tires, I don't think you really need to upgrade the load range - although moving up to higher ply units is a really good idea. I recommend the Taskmaster # TT48012 in particular, which features a 6 ply rating for a more durable setup and an excellent speed limit of 81 mph.
