Installing 4-Pole to 7-Way Trailer Connector Adapter on 2005 Dodge Ram

Question:

I bought a 7 pin for with a 4 for my 2005 dodge ram. I wanna hook up a trailer with no brakes. The dodge factory is just a 4 pin but theres a white and tan wire taped up. The adapter had three wires into your 4 pin then a white blue black and so on. Do I connect the black on the adapter to my white and tan on the truck to get.The rest of my lights to work?

I'm not sure which adapter you are speaking of. A 4-pole to 7-way adapter that would plug into the vehicle's existing 4-pole like part # 37185 would install as follows:

The 4-pole on the adapter would plug into the 4-pole on the truck. Once the loose white wire is grounded to the truck frame, this should provide you with functional trailer lighting circuits. The blue and black wire is usually ran to the front of the truck. The black wire would connect to the positive battery terminal via a 40-amp breaker like part # 9510. The blue wire would run through the firewall and connect to the output circuit of the brake controller. If you don't need these circuits, you can just bundle them up out of the way.

I couldn't say what the white and tan wire you mentioned is for. Try using a circuit tester like part # PTW2993 on it. If it goes hot with the brake pedal, the wire is intended to power the 3rd brake lamp on a camper shell.
