Wire Colors by Function for Trailer Connector Adapter Included w/ Brake Controller Install Kit ETBC7

Question:

I am installing an etbc 7. I just need to know what wires go where. I believe they are: white ground, black to battery, blue to brake controller, purple aux. power. Please let me know if this is correct. Also, do I need to power the aux.? I will be towing a horse trailer with onboard charger for the breakaway battery. Thanks

If you are referring to the wires coming off of the 7 to 4-way adapter that plugs into your existing 4-way trailer connector, you are correct except for the purple wire. The white wire should be grounded to a clean metal surface on the vehicle, the black wire runs to the positive battery terminal via the 40 amp inline circuit breaker included in the kit, the blue wire connects ultimately to the blue brake output wire on your brake controller, and the purple wire is typically tapped into the reverse light circuit of the tow vehicle.

The black wire that is run to the battery is the auxiliary power wire that would provide 12-volt power to the trailer for any accessories you might have. You would use that circuit for your break away battery charger.

For your convenience, I will provide a link below to an installation video that you might find helpful. The video shows a brake controller installation on a 2008 Tacoma using the Brake Controller Installation Kit, part # ETBC7.

We also have a Brake Controller Installation Guide that could provide help, as well. I will also link you to that.
