How to Determine if You Can Use Longer Thule Aeroblade Bars

Question:

Hi I currently have a set of 47inch Thule Standard Aeroblade bars on my 2012 Jetta sportwagen. I am wondering if the slots underneath on the 60inch bar will accomodate my car so I can hold additional bikes/lightweight cargo on my car. Thanks,

In order to know if you could use the 60 inch Thule Aeroblade bar part # TH711520 you will have to measure to determine how much track you have left to the inside of where the foot pack attaches to the bar. Basically measure from the beginning of the track opening on the inside of the bar to where the feet of the rack attach to the bars. Measure both sides of the bar and add the two numbers together. If that number is less than 13 the 60 inch bars would fit as they are 13 inches longer than what you currently have.

Also, you will want to make sure that the crossbars do not stick out further than the widest point of the vehicle. So you will need to know the width of your vehicle from the end of one mirror to the other. As long as that is more than 60 inches you would be good to go in that regard as well.
